History :

The first technical education providing institute in the history of Nepal was the Nepal Rajakiya Ayurveda Vidhalaya established in 1928. During this period, different levels of manpower (auxillary, middle and diploma level) were produced to cater to the national need. With the establishment of the New Educational System Plan (NESP), Nardevi Campus was established with the merging of HMG's Ayurveda Vidhyalaya and Chikitsalaya under Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University in 1972.

In the beginning it conducted only certificate level course but in 1987, bachelor level course BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery) was started and run until 1991. The programme restarted since 1996. It admits 15 students every year into its 5.5 years course with 3 professionals of 18 months each, followed by 1 year of compulsory internship.
